Barbell Maintainance
The Chieftain Barbell is one of the most durable barbells you will ever use. However, to prolong the life of the barbell and have a great lifting experience throughout its life, It is important to take care of the Chieftain and perform regular maintenance and optimize its performance. The Chieftain Bar comes with E-coating finish, and this provides the following advantages:
-
It provides a sleek-looking finish to the bar, without compromising on the aggressiveness of the knurling.
-
It provides high protection against corrosion and oxidization

While heavy use, it is easy for chalk to accumulate in the knurls, and contact with moisture in the form of sweat, over time can lead to corrosion if care is not taken. However, performing maintenance on the Chieftain is very easy and can be done following a simple process:

Tools required:
-
Stiff Nylon Bristle Brush
-
3:1 Oil
-
Microfibre Cloth (Or any Lint Free Rag)

Maintenance process:
Clean the Knurls: Clean the chalk and dirt out of the knurls using the Stiff Nylon Brush. A slight application of oil on the brush will help in getting stuck dirt or wet chalk out of the bar. If you regularly use chalk, it is recommended to clean the bar after every session involving the use of chalk. If the chalk is left on the bar, it can easily absorb moisture and over time cause corrosion
Oil the Bar: Spray the 3:1 oil directly on the bar and using the microfibre cloth or a lint-free rag, spread it evenly, as you wipe the entire shaft as well as the sleeves with the oiled cloth.

Wipe the Bar: After this, wipe off any excess oil from the bar using a clean cloth, and you're ready to go.

Maintenance frequency

-
Maintenance should be performed every 4 weeks following all the steps mentioned above.
-
If the chalk is used heavily while training, it is important to clean the knurls every 2-3 days for optimum performance.

Barbell storage:

-
Unload the Bar: When the bar is not in use, strip the bar of any weight plates. The Chieftain is designed to withstand weight during your lifts, but not permanently. Your bar will bend if you leave the plates on longer than necessary.
-
The Bar can be stored horizontally on the rack or vertically on a bar stand. Do not store the bar against a corner or leave it lying on the floor. Store the rack on UHMW Plastic lined JHooks to prevent scratches and peeling of the black oxide as metal-to-metal contact can scratch the bar.
